Welcome to Fairest Love Families! This series highlights families throughout the United States who have a love for their Catholic faith and a devotion to the Blessed Mother.

Introducing Emily and Jimmy Johnson! After having met online, the two got married in August of 2022 and welcomed their first son, Douglas, in June of 2023.

The two share how the Faith has played a critical role in their relationship, especially through the challenges of Jimmy’s job as a fireman…

What role does your faith play in your family life?

Our Catholic faith is truly a part of our everyday life and something that we will do our best daily to pass down to our children. Daily mass, prayer before meals and rosaries together are just a few ways we bring our faith into our daily life.

What religious traditions do you have as a family?

Mass is, and has been, a pivotal part of our relationship from the beginning. Many dates included Mass. Jimmy is a fireman, so his schedule is different from most people. As a result, we get to go to Mass together almost daily. It just starts our day off on the right note.

What is your favorite devotion or prayer as a family?

We love the Memorare… it just makes us feel as though Mary is by our side during the most difficult moments.

Share a moment when the Blessed Mother has helped you through a difficult time.

This past summer Jimmy was going through a particularly grueling test for the fire department. As he physically and mentally prepared for the test, we decided that the best way for me to support him on test day was to pray together before the test started, invoking Mary’s aid and praying for him throughout the day.

I set an alarm on my phone to go off every 30 minutes to remind me to pause in my work and pray the Memorare for him. By the end of the day, I received the call I had been waiting for – he passed!

How would you like your children to remember Mary in their day-to-day life?

I want our children to be able to go to Mary as their mother and be able to talk to her about anything and everything.

What about your faith do you hope to impart on your children?

It would be that God is always by their side and that Mary is a great Intercessor for us. She loves us as her own.
