Meet Rosa and Manuel from Chicago!
Tell a little bit about the family- use the question about where they are from, how they met, if they have children, etc.
We have 3 daughters & 1 son. My husband and I were born and raised in Mexico.
We met in Chicago, and a friend introduced us at a festival located in the suburbs of Chicago. We are a family of 6.
Do you have any religious traditions that you keep as a family?
Our family celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe by preparing some traditional Mexican tamales and hot chocolate. As well as Praying the Rosary at home and attending Mass as a family.
What role does your faith play in your family life?
The faith is very important to our family and it is what keeps our family united and strong. God has instilled this faith to our family and it is a reminder that we need Him everyday in our lives. Believing not only in Him but His promises.
What is your favorite devotion or prayer as a family? Why?
Our favorite family devotion would be The Holy Rosary. We pray it because this is what our Lady asked for. We like to offer the Rosary for God’s mercy on us and the conversion of sinners.
What was a moment, personally or within your family, that you felt Our Lady working in your life?
A moment we felt Our Lady working in our life was when my husband was close to having a heart attack. He was in lots of chest pain and by the time he arrived at the hospital we put our confidence in the Holy Family especially Our Lady of Champion. We asked for a miracle at that moment because it was something we had not expected .By the grace of God his surgery went well and if he hadn’t been taken to the hospital the doctors say he would have not made it.
Share a moment when the Blessed Mother has helped you through a difficult time or a challenge you faced as a family…
There was a time after my husband was out of the hospital where we were struggling to pay the mortgage. My husband being unable to work due to recovery was struggling and at that time we saw many of our friends help us with some monetary donations that helped us greatly.
What would you want your children to take away from any particular devotion you have to the Blessed Mother?
Visit the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City and ask Our Lady every moment of the day to protect them with her mantle and keep their hearts pure, help others, and close to the Catholic faith.
If you could impart any wisdom to your children about the faith, what would it be?
Visit the any chapel where Jesus is present, talk to Him like a friend asking “Abba father”. He is is always looking after us.
How has Mary been a mother to you?
Mary is a sweet mother who is always smiling and a perfect mother filled with kindness, and tender motherly love.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about how Our Lady has impacted your life?
Yes I’d like to remind whoever reads this that Our Lady is present at all times. Call out to her and she will be there with you with all her purity. Amen.
